Chinese New Year (extra credit)

In this website students can learn history information about the Chinese New Year. It will help students understand that during the Chinese New Year, different families will honor their ancestors and this day will help them to bring their families together.  In this website students will understand when the Chinese New Year is. Videos and pictures are provided for ELL Students and younger students. Videos will help them understand who celebrates Chinese New Year and how people celebrate it. 

2)Tradition
In this website students will learn about Chinese traditions during the Chinese New Year.  During the Chinese New Year, younger kids will receive lucky money. There are also different dances. The dragon dance is important because they believe that this will bring them luck. The lion dance is important as well. People believe that this dance will let evil go away. During the Chinese New Year people will use firecrackers because they believe that loud sounds will let evil run away. This website will help students understand what they do and what their traditions are. The pictures are next to the descriptions of each tradition. This will help ELL and younger students.

When you go to a Chinese restaurant you will see zodiac signs. A lot of students would not know what zodiac signs mean and where they came from. In this website students will learn 12 different zodiac signs and how the animals are selected. There are 12 different animals and every year, the animal signs change. This website will help students figure out the zodiac signs and the history background information about the signs. During the Chinese New year, Zodiac signs are very important.  This website will explain how zodiac signs are selected by telling a story. This will be a engaging activity that teachers can do to help students understand what zodiac signs are. 

4) food

This website is going to be for order students. In this website it will explain what people eat and what each food means. For Chinese New Year, people avoid foods that represent misfortune. This website will help students know that Chinese New Year is a 15 day celebration. This website will explain what people eat each day. This will help Students understand how food will play an important role in Chinese New Year. This website has pictures of a fish and an orange. This is because fishes and oranges represent good fortune. This is going to be for order students because it does not have many pictures. It explains the meanings of different foods but it does not have a lot of pictures. For ELL students, what teacher can do is ask them to write foods that represent good luck or the meanings of each food.
